The federal government has made reimbursement changes to Medicare and Medicaid which require providers to implement electronic health record technology and demonstrate its effective use by the year 2015. There are incentives for achieving this milestone. For those providers who do not meet this timetable, there will be a reduction in reimbursement every year after 2015.
